About Her.
Duchess
I adopted Duchess for the Edmonton Humane Society in March 2013. There is a quote “And then I saw you and my soul said, ah there you are, I’ve been looking for you.” And that was how it felt when our eyes met. We were meant to be. Duchess was a former puppy mill breeding dog and was terrified of the world around her. I knew nothing about dog behaviour but I’ve always been patient and kind to animals, and for a while that’s all Duchess needed. Over time her amazing, sweet, and silly personality came out.
Because of her I met Bilinda who mentored me. Because of her I learned about and became interested in dog physiotherapy and fitness. Because of her I got Marlowe, who really got me into behaviour and training. Because of her I made life long friendships. Because of her I got outside and explored nature, survived heartache, enjoyed many solo (with her) road trips, got through a rough pregnancy, and laughed every single day. I am who I am because of her.
We said goodbye on October 1, 2021 when she was almost 13 years old. She fought with grace and goofiness through cancer, hypothyroidism, cushing’s disease, hip dysplasia, arthritis, just to name a few. She taught me so much. She lived her best life right up until the morning she decided it was time for her to go. She is my soulmate and I miss her desperately. It only made sense to name this venture after her, something that came to me in the middle of the night after months of trying to come up with a business name.
In her name I will do my best to help as many people and their dogs as I can. I will always be patient, kind, and fair, and I will smile every day.
Thank you for being you, Duchess, thank you for finding me, thank you for the laughs, thank you for your love. I will carry you in my heart, always and forever.
